About Data Values
(Infection Stats)
How data is prepared
Data provided is accumulated from a variety of sources and then aggregated to provide updates with 5 minutes checks. Thereafter, processed with updates and should be ready to display every 15 minutes to the 'Infections Stats' page. Since data comes from [variety of] different sources, they usually do not have matching values. Therefore, the values shown are estimated to be the better values because of reasons like: source reputation, time, values, metrics, etc. The values being collected by sources come from multiple reports and those can contain errors or misrepresented values. Below shows how each column's values are made and their representational purpose.
Column Type | Description | Process |
|---|---|---|
'New' | Any new increase from previous [last] reporting. | Calculated |
'Prev EOD's' | Due to source's reporting time zone, the Today's values can feel odd. Therefore, Prev EOD's provides the previous day's value before this [new] Today's value was updated. Since then Today's would reflect a new day on UTC+0 time; which is 4-8 hours ahead of our contiguous-USA time zones. | Calculated |
'Today's' | The value for Today, based on the the time zone selected. | Reported & Calculated |
'Change' | The percentage change for Today's value in comparison to the 'Active' value, or otherwise the 'Cumulative Total' value. This is a percentage value, not rate. | Calculated |
'Active' | The Active value, from which data has been resolved. For example: 'Active Cases', are the cases that people have not recovered and have not died from - still actively infected and sometimes collects unresolved cases too. | Reported & Calculated |
'Cumulative Total' | The Cumulative (aggregated) total since the beginning of the reporting. For example: 'Cumulative Total Cases', represents all cases - active and even those which people have recovered, died and unresolved. | Reported & Calculated |
'Per 1M' | The rate per 1 million people, when calculated against the 'Cumulative Total' value. This is a rate value, not percentage. | Reported |
'Population's' | The percentage value against the displayed Population's '2020 (est)' value. This is a percentage value, not rate. | Calculated |
